Yasuyuki Saito

I am a physician–scientist in hematology and immunology whose research focuses on dendritic cell biology and immunotherapy. During my PhD program, I identified a key role for SIRPα in the homeostatic regulation of lymphoid organ–resident cDC2s, and subsequently trained at University Hospital Zurich in Markus Manz’s laboratory, studying human dendritic cell development using humanized mouse models. Since establishing my research group at Kobe University, I have demonstrated critical roles of the SIRPα–CD47 axis in stromal cell survival, T‑cell activation, and cancer immunity, and developed humanized mouse models for evaluating novel immunotherapies. I am currently a full professor of Immunology, focusing on immunotherapeutic strategies for cancer and autoimmune diseases.
