Jake W Rhodes
Jake Rhodes is a post-doctoral translational researcher in the field of HIV immunology, with a particular interest in the early immunological events of sexual transmission. During his PhD studies at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) he characterized the mononuclear phagocytes (MNPs) within the human anogenital tract and investigated how these MNPs interact with HIV in early infection, notably highlighting three key HIV target cells within these tissues. He is currently working in the Emory Vaccine center at the Emory National Biomedical Research Center, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, under the mentorship of world-leading HIV researcher Dr Eric Hunter, where his post-doctoral research is investigating sex-based differences in early HIV infection. During his post-doc he was awarded a 2-year Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers America (PhRMA) Foundation Post Doctoral Fellowship in Translational Medicine to undertake a separate project investigating plasma cytokines as biomarkers for increased HIV acquisition risk.
