Silvia Della Bella
Silvia Della Bella is Associate Professor of General Pathology and Immunology at the University of Milan and Senior Staff Scientist in the Lab of Clinical and Experimental Immunology at Humanitas research Hospital. Secretary of the European Society for Clinical Cell Analysis (ESCCA) from 2014 to 2021.
With her research group, she investigated the immunobiology of human DCs in distinct physiological and pathological conditions including healthy aging, healthy and pathologic pregnancy, chronic viral infections and cancer. To this aim, she developed flow cytometric and culture protocols aimed at DC characterization.
Her present research is mainly focused on the immune dysregulation associated with human thymic epithelial tumors that are at the intersection between cancer immunology and autoimmunity. In this context, she is investigating the role of DCs in the pathogenesis of tumor-associated autoimmunity by using high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics.
